FAQs

What is the mission or purpose of Prepared Physician?

Our purpose is to empower clinicians by affordably equipping them with hospital grade materials, devices, and medications to care for their loved ones at home, on vacation, or on the go.

What does Prepared Physician sell?

Prepared Physician offers over 190 medications, hospital grade, sterile suture kits, IV hydration kits, and their a la carte components, AEDs, Hemorrhage control products. We are frequently adding new products. If you want something you don’t see, please ask us. We can special order it for you.

Why wouldn’t I just grab what I need from work?

Most of us are employed or contract with a hospital or clinic. We don’t own the materials we work with every day. Sometimes we can get approval from administrators/owners to use their materials, which is awesome, but that is the minority. It’s easy to rationalize that we have “earned” or “deserve” to use our facility’s materials, without asking permission. But that can cause an inner conflict within us. In addition, if we are away from home, we don’t have access to those materials and hospitals and clinics can't give or sell them to us. I’ve tried. We offer an affordable alternative with autonomy, integrity, and peace of mind. Peace of mind because there is no internal conflict and because you can sleep easily knowing you are prepared.

Why should I buy from Prepared Physician rather than from a larger supplier, like Henry Schein or McKesson?

Savings and Convenience. Prepared Physician was created by an emergency physician to serve physicians. We save you money by purchasing in bulk so you don’t have to. You don’t have to pay for 20 units of something when you only need 1. We offer convenience by thoughtfully considering what you need in your personalized kits and assembling them for you. In addition, it is a lengthy process to get an account approved with larger suppliers. Prepared Physician knows how valuable and limited your time is. We make it easy and efficient for you.

How do I find what I am looking for on the website?

You will love our Complaint/Organ System based catalog. We have thought of what you didn’t know you needed. In addition, our search bar is super handy. Search by product name or condition you want to treat and you will find the products you desire. If we don’t have it, ask and we’ll get it for you.

Where are our products sourced from?

All Prepared Physician products are sourced from reputable US-based companies, such as Ethicon, Covidien, 3M, Halyard, Henry Schein, McKesson, Mar-Med Co., etc.

Can anyone purchase these products?

The FDA requires prescription medical devices & medications be "sold by or on the order of a physician." The business entity, Prepared Physician, LLC , sells the products on this website.

Some products, like an empty medical bag, a SAM splint, or Gift Card, are not medical devices and do not require a medical license for purchase.

However, most of the products are or contain prescription medical devices and or medications. A licensed medical clinician (physician, podiatrist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, dentist, veterinarian), including residents, may purchase these prescription products under their own license.

How do I demonstrate my qualification to purchase your prescription devices and medications?

After your order has been placed, you will be prompted to provide your NPI number. If this is not provided or we cannot confirm your licensure, your order will be cancelled.

When do the materials expire?

Although most of our products have a 3-5 year shelf life, some products (Dermabond, Lidocaine, IV Fluids) have a shorter period before expiration, as assigned by the manufacturer. Our commitment is to provide you with materials that expire no sooner than 3 months from your date of purchase, unless indicated on the product page. Most supplies will far exceed this expiration period.

Where can you ship your products?

Anywhere in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

When can I expect delivery after placing my order?

We offer free shipping, which delivers within 3-5 business days. We also offer expedited shipping, including overnight, through UPS and USPS options for a fee.

Do you have a guarantee?

As a fellow physician, I want to personally guarantee your satisfaction with your Prepared Physician products. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or text at (435) 239 - 3131.

What is your cancellation policy?

We are easy. Just ask and if it has not shipped, we cancel and fully refund your order immediately. If it has shipped, we can make arrangements for you to return your order with a refund.

Can or should physicians/clinicians purchase Rx medications and devices to care for themselves or loved ones?

Yes physicians/clinicians can. There are no federal laws generally prohibiting physicians from caring for themselves or their families. No state completely prohibits physicians from caring for themselves or family by law, but most states have regulations, guidelines, or rules that discourage or prohibit certain types of care. Ohio is a key example, with a law prohibiting physicians from using controlled substances for themselves or family. North Carolina also discourages and places restrictions on such practices, particularly for chronic conditions or controlled substances, though it allows for minor illnesses and emergencies. Medical boards may prohibit or discourage this practice, and ethical guidelines generally advise against it due to potential conflicts of interest, compromised objectivity, and the patient's potential discomfort with disclosing personal information. While exceptions exist for emergencies or minor, urgent conditions, physicians should primarily refer themselves and family members to other qualified practitioners in nonemergent, more than minor conditions to ensure professional objectivity and the patient's best interest.

Can I dispense medications I purchase to patient customers in my Direct Primary Care (DPC) or concierge medicine practice?

Regulations on physician medication dispensing varies state by state. Most states allow physician dispensing, but some require a physician to obtain a permit to do so. This practice is in keeping with the federal Drug Supply Chain Act (DSCA).
